Wizards

Says A., who knows all things scenish: The new Cypress Park hipsters with long hair and beards down to here are called "Wizards." How perfect. To be admired in their natural habitat, spinning records and sipping beer, at "Footsies," the former scene of my only bar crime.

Nouveau Hipsters

As I sipped my latte at Chango's today, I felt glad that I'm no longer a hipster. The new generation of hipsters, if you can even call them that, just doesn't have it. In fact, they seem forced and retarded and really don't know how to dress, having grown up with too many Old Navy commercials. In fact, even Chango's isn't the same with its new paint job and selling coconut water. And the stupid-ass fixed gear bikes parked out front.

Holidays Owls

Every hipster Christmas tree needs owl ornaments. Really. The easiest way to show you're "with it." I just got some at Target. But better: http://www.inhabitots.com/2009/11/21/invite-stewart-the-owl-home-for-the-holidays/

Owls Again

I thought owls had had their 15 minutes of fame. That's until I saw the owl bag from Anthropologie. Me wants it! So ironic. And it's just $398!

In: Irony

Everyone is so ironic. A. ordered a Michael Jackson shirt that just arrived for, quote, irony's sake. Sarcasm I get. Irony? Not so much. Growing a beard and wearing loafers is ironic I guess. Liking cats in sinks and Fuck You, Penguin, http://www.fupenguin.com. or does that just make you hip? And does this make Me old as the hills?

"Hipster irony is predicated on the fear that if you take a stand and claim to actually like something, you are opening yourself up to criticism by those who do not. The work-around is to only like things ironically, to never actually come out in support of anything." That sums it up. Courtesy of www.thetartan.org/2007/9/24/forum/hipsters.

Snuggies

Why do hipsters think it's cute and "ironic" to like the Snuggie? Now there are even Snuggie pub crawls. And this morning, I got one of my "cool" "urban" email alerts that started: "In the beginning, there was fire. Then came the wheel, the Internet and most recently, the Snuggie." Snuggies suck. But the free reading light you get when you order one, now that's a different story!

Mid-Century Modern Owls

Your home is not complete unless you have an owl. It's the closest thing to actually owning a Mid-Century Modern house. If you cannot afford a Frank Lloyd Wright in Los Feliz, you can at least show you're hip by selecting tasteful pieces of owl art. The nursery especially is a great place to showcase your belonging to the cool class.
They have sweet stuff here: www.petitcollage.com.
